Events Opening: Alex Diamond
posted 02.02.2011  |   by Sissy

Danke, we like!

Künstler: Alex Diamond (USA)

Titel: Into the Night

In der Ausstellung "Into the Nicht" zeigt Alex Diamond neue Holzschnitzereien.

News Favourite Website Award: adidas Urban Art Guide
posted 15.12.2010  |   by Eva

Bildschirmfoto 2010-12-15 um 06.59.58

With 2010 drawing to a close, it\'s raining end-of-year reviews ... and awards!

It all started with a love of art, curiosity and plenty of know-how: in March 2009, the adidas Urban Art Guide - the world\'s first ever mobile street art guide - saw the light of day and took to the streets. Accompanied by a website with more in-depth info and plenty of updates, the smartphone app introduced lovers of urban art to some of the best - and hidden - examples with a loving and detailed exploration of Berlin street art.

Bildschirmfoto 2010-12-15 um 07.00.21

A year later, almost to the day, Hamburg became the second German city to get the adidas Urban Art Guide treatment, unearthing all those hidden - and ephemeral - gems to be found within the cityscape.

Taking stock of the past two years, we\'ve had two fantastic launch events, a great party in Berlin (together with the Stroke Urban Art Pair), a continually growing Facebook community and many, many app downloads every single day. So, the future beckons and the globe is the limit - after all, street art can be found in every corner of the world!

Bridging the gap between the status quo and global coverage, our website www.urbanartguide.com exposes great street art from around the world. It is regularly updated with newly found treasures submitted by users or our own experts.

With this in mind, the FWA picked our adidas Urban Art Guide as its App of the Day.

Thanks a million for your support!

Artists XOOOOX for your living room

Bildschirmfoto 2010-12-15 um 07.45.05

Exploring the fine line between street art and fashion, XOOOOX takes his fleeting beauties to Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg - and beyond. Only recently, he braved the Channel to spruce up East London with his impeccably styled models.

Well, before you book a ticket and pack your camera (or a scraper for clandestine removal, naughty you), there's an easier way to enjoy a piece of XOOOOX in the comforts of your own home.

The artist's gallery, Circleculture, now offers a limited print run of XOOOOX‘ iconic images!

Head in the clouds? Crank up that childhood imagination! When we were young, we all eyed those fluffy, airborne receptacles of moisture with boundless wonder, discovering dragons, palaces, candy canes or choo-choo trains in their billowing, amorphous shapes.

So, why not take this principle further - and translate it to our more "grown-up" and immediate surroundings? All of a sudden, we find ourselves surrounded by watchful eyes, peeking from a nearby power outlet, that house across the street or the washing machine controls.

Intrigued? Then get inspired by http://facesinplaces.blogspot.com/ ... or mail in your own "observers"!

Artists Listen to the message- Michael Aaron Williams
posted 08.12.2010  |   by Sissy

The artworks of Michael Aaron Williams are often there where you do not expect them.

Usually you can see the kids leaning against a bridge pier or picking flowers from a street corner. Althoug you don't expect them,

Aaron Williams places his figures where you can definitely find them
and sends his message: Do not look away!Take care of those who need your help!
We think it's right and we should remind us more often! Thanks to Aaron Williams, we are fans already...

News Urban Art Guide Hamburg celebrates launch
posted 25.03.2010  |   by Sissy

Whoever has a close watch on the iTunes Store has already noticed that our app has already been available with the Hamburg city option for a couple of weeks now.
Today we finally celebrate the official launch of the Urban Art Guide Hamburg with a nice little press walk and an even nicer party in cooperation with Vice magazine.

One thing's for sure: Hamburg's worth a while and we're uber glad to now have the opportunity to show all street art fans great and versatile art pieces in the 'northern capital' of Germany - very smoothly via the app, of course.

You can download the app here.

Interviews The Signtologist
posted 25.02.2010  |   by Eva

01_signtologist

An interview with Dan Ericson aka The Signtologist who inspires us (and quite a number of celebs) with his very literal approach to 'street' art by painting old, discarded street signs. Luckily for us there's a certain micro-blogging thing called Twitter that allowed us to get in touch with the Denver-based artist (follow him @THESIGNTOLOGIST). He was kind enough to answer our e-mail interview below. Thank you to the artist (for answering so quickly and waiting so patiently)! >> check out the interview

The things we find on the web again and again and of course major artists like Os Gemeos strongly prove it: Street art has a very hearty home in Brazil. So get ready for a lot of differenty styles and vividly colored murals in this small book.

Get it here.

oaxaca

Very insightful book with impressive pictures about graffiti in Oaxaca, Mexico where graffiti became a way of achieving social justice - mainly supported by women. Very interesting to look beyond one's own nose every once in a while!

The book is available here.

Let's talk classics. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Martha Cooper's Subway Art we have no trouble speaking of a true classic. Back to the roots with bombed subway trains and New York of the early 80ies. How do you say? Must-have!

Available here for example.

Blek le Rat, old dog. The French stencil-artist has probably worked the streets when we were but a mere idea in the heads of our parents. Which is why he well deserves a place in our book shelves.
